The hardworking folks at CARE wrote a very good summary of some of the history of the Conditional Use Permit (CUP). In their letter, they detail some of the issues with the CUP and the lack of enforcement of the CUP by King County. Pacific Raceways is asking for a new permit that will give them the ability to operate however they please, with little or no restrictions.

This culvert is one of many, the Raceway has build "french drains" that carry water off the Racetrack and send it straight down the hill into Soos Creek. Not ONE Stormwater Pond holds all the runoff and contaminants from this Industrial Site
This process is flawed. Meetings have not been “open” because they have been held without reasonable notification to the surrounding communities. The current CUP has not been followed nor enforced. Environmental problems such as noise and water quality have been neglected. These problems should be addressed and solved before changing the permit. I believe any decisions resulting from meetings that were not “open” should be reevaluated with input from the surrounding communities. I believe this process should be stopped until King County can show: 1) The public is being notified; 2) The CUP is being followed; and 3) The CUP is being enforced.
ReplyDeleteKing County has received violation notices for years, when the Raceway makes noise on our quiet Mondays and Tuesdays, and that the Raceway does not comply with the Conditional Use Permit by posting quiet weekend days for the summer months. This unacceptable situation has been going on for years.
ReplyDeleteKing County does not enforce the CUP, they go no further than repeated letters of violation to the Raceway, begging them to comply with the rules. The Raceway is a bad neighbor. They are like a tyrant, ruining our neighborhood with their incessant noise.
Perhaps the solution is a class action lawsuit against king county for non enforcement, and the Raceway for its blatant violation of the rules. King county is allowing our health to be damaged by endless noise, and allowing our property values to suffer.

ReplyDeleteThe meeting between DDES, Jason Firioto (track's owner) and the neighboring residents will be held at Green River College this Wednesday, October 13th at the Glacier conference room. We hope that a lot of interested neighbors show up, because Fiorito intends to flood the place with racing fans. We need all the participation we can get. Hope to see you there.
ReplyDeleteUnless we show up, our absence will be taken and counted as not caring about the noise and the escalation and expansion of this raceway. When our citizen's group met with Peter Von Reichbaeur and gave him petitions with over 71 signatures he responded that most people who live around the Raceway are not bothered by the noise, or they would file complaints.
ReplyDeleteI have lived near the Raceway for 12 years. The noise gets worse and worse. If they are permitted to expand, they won't buy us out like the airport. We will just suffer.
